Hon. Shashindra Rajapaksa was elected as Chief Minister of 5th provincial council in Uva. He topped the preferential voting list obtaining 136,697 votes in the Uva Provincial Council Elections held on 08th August 2009 contesting from Moneragala District from the UPFA.

Also he is the Private Secretary of Excellency President Mahinda Rajapaksha.

295 teaching appointments to graduates of Uva Province


Hon. Chief Minister of Uva Province Shasheendra Rajapaksa presented appointments of letters as teachers to 295 unemployed graduates in the Uva Province at a well attended ceremony held in Monaragala, recently.
These new teachers, including a few Buddhist monks have been appointed to teach subjects such as Science, Mathematics, Agricultural Science, Tamil & English languages.
The Governor of Uva Province Hon. C. Nanda Mathew, Minister of Coconut Development & Janatha Estate Development Jagath Pushpakumara, Minister Parliamentary Affairs Sumedha Jayasena, Member of Parliament Vijitha Berugoda, Provincial Ministers Kumarasiri Ratnayake & Senthil Thondaman and other government officials including the secretary of the Provincial Ministry of Education L.L.Anil Wijesiri attended the ceremony.
